Rome’s Dance Fever Rises In December with Nutcracker, Rock the Ballet & Roland Petit.

The last moth of the year seems to be the very best for dance and ballet in Rome. December will feature three big events, one after the other, for the joy of dance-lovers!
Let’s follow the chronological order. From Dec. 7 to 12 Teatro Olimpico will host Rock the Ballet, a fusion of classic Ballet technique blended with the excitement of musical theatre, hip hop, ballet, tap, contemporary, gymnastics and more. The soundtrack including some of the biggest hits from U2, Michael Jackson, Prince, Queen, Coldplay and Lenny Kravitz. Set against a backdrop of video projected scenery, the show is exciting, fun,fleshy, raunchy powerful, and brilliantly entertaining. Online ticket on sale here and here.
A dance classic and Christmas season must will instead be on stage from Dec. 14 to 19: The Nutcracker. The Macedonian Ballet will perform this two-act show with music by Tchaikovsky at Teatro Italia. Don’t miss Clara, the Mouse King, a bunch of dancing mice and the Sugar Plum Fairy! Its amalgam of children, parents, toys, a Christmas tree, snow, sweets and Tchaikovsky’s astounding score is integral to the forthcoming holidays.
Finally, in the last decade of the month (December 22-30) the Opera theatre of Rome will dedicate a whole show to Roland Petit, the 20th century French ballet leader known for his creativity. This unprecedented event will feature the romantic L’Arlesienne and the erotic Carmen, two of the great choreographer and dancer’s masterpieces, combining fantasy and contemporary realism in a perfect mix.
