Voca People, Choirs & Gospels. Rome’s Christmas Music Kicks Off!

Right, the Christmas Holidays haven’t started yet but Rome’s entertainment scene is already bustling with lots of performances and events. Let’s have a wrap-up of the most interesting music shows running until the Epiphany.
With over 15 million viewers on YouTube, the Voca people will please the crowds on Sunday December 12 at Auditorium. They will stage a new phenomenon like no other show. Amazing vocal sounds, accapella singing with the art of beat box creating an incredible range of sounds and instruments. An evening of total excitement, music of all times, comedy and audience participation. At 9 pm, in Viale Pietro de Coubertin.
From December 11 until January 6, Sacred Music festival “Grande musica in chiesa”, will feature 10 free concerts in some of the most beautiful churches of Rome and surroundings – Poggio Moiano, Viterbo, Velletri, Nepi. Music program and info about the churches hosting the shows here (only in Italian).
Rome’s Gospel Festival 15th edition will start with a bang on December 19th 2010, with the Soweto Gospel Choir taking to the stage at the Parco della Musica. This South African group may be familiar to many music fans for their victories at the 2008 and 2009 Grammys – both of which came in the best traditional world music album category. But the Soweto Gospel Choir are not the only stars lined up to entertain audiences in Rome, as the Chicago Mass Choir, Michelle Prather & Higher Calling and Bridget Campbell Gospel Singers are all scheduled to perform. Although many of the groups are from the US, the event always delivers some talent from other countries as well. The Festival’s last show is the New Year’s Eve concert on December 31. At Rome’s Auditorium.
