Contemporary, Vintage, Rock and Classical: Rome’s Music Offer for the Summer

Summer has always been a great time to spend your evening out in Rome. During this season Rome has a solid tradition of shows and events. The music scene is more bustling than usual with most concerts taking place outdoor.

The French Arts Academy of Rome, i.e. Villa Medici, holds a 3-day summer music happening from June 9 to the 11th. The second edition of “Villa Aperta” is all about contemporary and modern music and features emerging talents such as His Clancyness, Gildas Loaec, Pony Hoask and Metronomy.

The same day, June 9, will also see another music event start in Rome. It is “Rock City”. On the backdrop of beautiful pines and the ancient Roman aqueduct of the Aqueducts Park, rock, reggae, hip hop, heavy metal and ska bands will perform every night until August 14. On July 12 the US funk soul band Tower of Power will perform for the first time on a Roman stage, on July 26 Fish former vocalist of the Marillon will play for the first time in acoustic version, while on August 5 the hard rock artist Michael Schenker will make his debut in the Eternal City.

The very best of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s music will entertain you from June 10 to August 15 at the “Roma Vintage” Festival in the central Saint Sebastian park. A longed-for performance will be the presentation of the new album “Z series” by the Ash, who haven’t played in Italy for many years, on June 16.

Finally some open-air classical music. In one of our favorite Roman parks, Villa Torlonia, from July 1 to August 7 for “Musica sotto il cielo stellato di Villa Torlonia”. And in front of the Teatro Marcello theatre, right behind piazza Venezia, from now until October 2 for the “Concerti del Tempietto”.

Well, this is all, you might think. Not really as the bulk of Rome’s summer shows and events will start with the Estate Romana (Roman summer) whose program will hopefully be available in the next few days!
