Rome’s top fashion event, AltaRoma, is starting soon. The January Fashion week will begin next week, on the 28th, and will run through the 31st.
This year’s edition (provisional schedule here), despite the big financial problems of local governments and authorities, will feature even more shows than the previous years.
Four international stars and four Rome-based renown names will draw the attention of the public. But there are also two interesting happenings on small fashion companies and emerging designers that are worth a visit. A total of 42 designers will perform for the January meet-up (the other key happening of this bi-annual event is in July).
Let’s start with the international stars who will show their latest creations. Jack Guisso, the Lebanese designer who made Paris Hilton and Jane Fonda’s dresses for the Golden Globes will display his Spring/Summer clothes on the 28th. The others are Corto Moltedo, Nasir Mazhar and Justin Smith.
The four Roman designers Sarli, Balestra, Lancetti and Gattinoni, are key figures of the Italian couturier system. Each of them will be on the catwalk on a different date, covering the whole 4-day event.
A.I., Artisanal Intelligence, is the event to meet the local community of artisans who are not fashion designers but clearly have the skills and the potential to make the big leap.
While Who is on next? is a contest for young, emerging fashion talents. Among them Stella Jean, the Italo-Haitian fashion stylist. After impressing the media at the July 2011 event for her color and clothing matches, she will present the 2012 Spring/summer collection on January 31.
