Rome’s Summer Sales kicked off today and shoppers will enjoy ten weeks of discounts and great offers. Just when you assume that the word “sale” lost its glittering appeal due to the Euro Crisis, sales are expected to boost spendings because of a tighter household budget. The local trade association hopes that this event will attract a great deal of local citizens and even international visitors.
For short staying tourists, don’t forget to check out popular shopping strips namely Via del Corso (city center) and Via Cola di Rienzo (Prati neighborhood, near the St. Peter’s Basilica). While for long staying visitors, we suggest Viale Marconi, Viale Europa in EUR or Viale Libia, now easier to reach with the newly inaugurated B1 underground line (see details here). And why not experience Rome’s commercial centers and outlets – where they have more stocks and products available? Bad news though, they aren’t conveniently connected with Rome’s public transportation. Please don’t get us wrong, all the malls can be reached by public transportation but if you want a hassle-free shopping day we suggest you grab a cab or rent a car.
Some friendly reminders to keep handy before you set off on your hunt for bargains this sale season: Make sure that the tags clearly indicate the original price, the marked down or final price and the actual discount percentage. Retailers must separate their sale items from the non-sale items as not to confuse their shoppers. Don’t forget your original receipts for any future merchandise exchanges or product defects. Regardless of a no return-no exchange policy of individual stores, retailers are obligated to change defected items sold even during sale season, so always keep your original receipts! Don’t be fooled if any merchant only accepts cash for the sole reason of sales, especially if they accept the use of credit cards, checks or debit cards during the regular seasons. Last but definitely not the least, as a general rule when in Rome, please be mindful of your belongings at all times.
Summer sales end 15 September 2012. We wish you great bargains and amazing offers. Happy stress-free summer shopping!
