Opera and much more, the 2013 edition of Terme di Caracalla by the Rome Opera Theatre starts this week and will run through August 10.
The ancient Roman baths will host an interesting mix of ballet, music, theatre and opera for an unforgettable summer season of outdoor shows. A particularly long, varied and innovative schedule.
The performances feature the orchestra, chorus and the ballet company of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma as well as international stars.
50,000 thousand spectators showed up last year at the 3,500 seating open air facility.
What is probably the best English chamber opera piece, Dido and Aeneas, will mark the debut of the season. This work by Henry Purcell was probably the first great opera by an Englishman. Directed by Jonathan Webb. June 13-16.
Another major opera that we recommend is Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni from July 2 to August 7.
Tosca by Giacomo Puccini will be on stage from August 1 to the 6th.
Our favorite dance shows are in mid-July.
Roland Petit’s L’Arlesienne and Carmen on July 12-19.
While the Italian ballet star Roberto Bolle will perform on July 21-22 with the American ballet theatre.
With regards to music, we suggest you Ennio Morricone’s show on July 25. Morricone composed many of the best soundtracks of the Italian cinema.
The 2013 summer season will end with a show devoted to Giuseppe Verdi on August 9 and 10.
