2013 Thanksgiving in Rome: A weekend of Food, Lunches, Dinners, Games and Celebrations!

thanksgiving 2013Thanksgiving is not a holiday in Italy, and actually few Italian know what it is. But in Rome there are many occasions to celebrate this important feast for Americans since the resident US community is big, as well as the number of tourists from America.

Let’s start with the high end events organized by Rome’s luxury hotels on November 28.

The Uliveto restaurant of the Rome Cavalieri Hotel has both a lunch and a dinner choice and a takeaway option. Menu here.

The Hotel d’Angleterre, in downtown Rome, will also welcome you with a special Thanksgiving menu for lunch and dinner at its Caffè Romano.

Another new entry in the Roman Thanksgiving scene is offered by the Caffè di Ripetta, near Piazza del Popolo which will also prepare the Thanksgiving menu for both lunch and dinner.

North of Rome there is one of the most traditional Thanksgiving appointments here. It’s at the restaurant Mama’s, accompanied by a jazz concert. Dinner from 7pm.

Another good destination is the Vivibistrot menu inside the Villa Pamphilj park. Dinner from 8:30pm.

One of the major US associations in Rome, AICR, which stands for American International Club of Rome, proposes a cocktail followed by dinner at the Hotel Intercontinental in the heart of the historic center of Rome which is also open to non-members.

Also in downtown Rome is the Hard Rock Cafè with another typical meal for this special feast. Dj set and cheerleaders will entertain you during your dinner. From 8pm.

A charity Thanksgiving lunch will take place on December 1 at Casa Martinelli to help jailed women who work in a farm and kitchen inside the Roman prison of Rebibbia.

If you’re after a party atmosphere with some American football, the Highlander pub is a good destination. Thanksgiving-inspired buffet from 6pm and the three games of the day.

An alternative pub is the Abbey Theatre with banquet and football games.

Last but not least, the religious celebration: a Mass will be celebrated at the church of S. Camillo de Lellis in Via Sallustiana 24 at 10am.

PS It’s a radically alternative Thanksgiving, or maybe it has very little to do with it, but our friends Paola of Italian Glamorous Services and Massimiliano of Rome Gallery Tours with their business partners Ducati Caffè and the creative pastry shop La Belle Aurore propose for November 28 only a very original double (morning and afternoon) tour of Rome’s food and art highlights at an unbeatable price.
