Despite the never-ending economic crisis Rome still has the energy and the enthusiasm to produce, invest and create in culture and entertainment. The resources are very limited and budgets are thinning but Rome’s magic Christmas atmosphere is still there. A big help came from Francis, the new pope, a greatly spiritual and inspiring figure for the whole world.
We picked some events, to help you select from the very wide offer. There are many more than those that we chose as we couldn’t include them all.

DEC-30/JAN-6. The Sacred Music Association presents 5 sacred music choral concerts in five different locations. Always at 9pm.
VERDI. On the same day, different time, 9pm, there is a concert that selects some of the key fragments of A Masked Ball. Free offer.

IN HONOUR OF POPE FRANCIS. Jorge Mario Bergoglio turns 77 on December 17. On the 20th the Basilica of S. Maria degli Angeli celebrates the new pope with a concert and some readings from his keynote speeches. At 8:30pm.
ORGAN. S. Marcello al Corso from December 15. Free concerts at 7pm.
DEC-21/JAN-4. Angel concerts. The Methodist Church near St Angel Bridge (in front of the Castle) features a holiday season of concerts. At 8:30pm.
DEC-13. The Soul Singers will play gospels, spiritual and afroamerican music in the very central church of S. Maria in Portico in Campitelli. At 8:45pm.
DEC-21/31. Roma Gospel Festival. Auditorium. The best Gospel event in town with some of the top US crews on stage.
NUTCRACKER. Moscow Ballet. Through December 14. At Teatro Brancaccio.

TANGO POR DOS. Miguel Angel Zotto celebrates the birthday of his countryman Bergoglio with a Tango performance. On December 17. Auditorium Conciliazione. At 9pm.

The leading crew this year seems to be El Grito, a contemporary circus company which will perform in many places with different shows throughout the Christmas holidays. Here’s their calendar.
